TRADITIONAL LATIN MASS

The Traditional Latin Mass is being celebrated each Sunday at 11am at St Patrick’s Church in Kaiapoi. This new Mass follows Bishop Michael’s decrees removing the faculties of the priests of the Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer, as recommended by the Vatican. Bishop Michael would like to remind the faithful that any public Masses celebrated by the priests of the Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer are illicit – that is, outside the rules of the Church. The decrees remain in effect regardless of any challenge. Any enquiries or concerns, including around the provision of the Latin Mass and the sacraments, can be made by emailing TLMC@cdoc. nz or calling 03 244 0331.

THE SEASON OF CREATION CELEBRATION

The Season of Creation Celebration which extends from 1st September until 4th October, the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, offers us a way to take steps towards believing more deeply in God as Creator. Throughout this month-long celebration, the world’s 2.2 billion Christians come together to care for our common home. This year’s theme is: “To Hope and Act with Creation” and the symbol inspired by Roman 8:19-25 is: “The firstfruits of hope.” In his letter to the Romans, Paul pictures the Earth as a mother. Later, Francis of Assisi referred to the Earth as our Sisterand our Mother. Today our relationship with the Earth is one of subjection and exploitation rather than one of nurturing and respect.
