HOURS OF MERCY

“Hours of Mercy” is a eucharistic adoration organised by Jesus Youth New Zealand from Easter Monday to Pentecost Day, across all 6 dioceses in New Zealand. Each diocese will be taking it up for one day of the week, every week until Pentecost. In Christchurch, we are having it on every Thursday.

Aim: Eucharistic Adoration is a cherished practice in our Catholic Church. With Hours of Mercy, we aim to foster this practice within our community, providing a space for everyone to experience the transformative power of God’s mercy. We invite all of you to join us in the presence of the Holy Eucharist. If you are keen to cover one of the slots of Eucharistic adoration, please express your interest by simply scanning the QR code and filling up the form.

Time: Every Thursday after Easter Sunday till Pentecost, 8am to 8 pm

Location: Our Lady of Victories Church, Sockburn

LOOKING FOR INFORMATION - CAN YOU HELP?

In November 1986, Pope John Paul II visited New Zealand, celebrating Mass at Lancaster Park in Christchurch. Brian Phillips constructed the platform (and possibly the altar) for the occasion. Two years later, a new church in Motueka neared completion and Father Jim Davis sought an altar for the new church. Learning the Pope’s altar was in storage, he purchased it for $200 through Fr. Miles O’Malley. It was installed in St Peter Chanel Parish with a relic of St Peter Chanel attached. The church was consecrated in 1988. We are seeking any details you may know about the altar’s construction, wood used, and its cost. If you have any information, please call Kevin on 027 3200 530 or email archives@cdoc.nz
