The Diocese of Christchurch is seeking an experienced and forward‑thinking Chief Finance Officer (CFO) to lead a passionate and committed team and contribute meaningfully to the strategic direction of the Catholic Diocese of Christchurch.
This is an exciting period of growth and renewal as the Diocese strengthens its presence in the region through:
· The creation of the cathedral precinct, including construction of the new cathedral and associated buildings
· A shift in focus from ‘maintenance to Mission’ through evangelisation
· Supporting the continued development and vitality of the Diocesan Parishes.

About The Role:
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the CFO serves as a strategic partner, accountable for the Diocese financial and IT performance. The role’s primary focus is to safeguard and improve the financial position of the Diocese, enabling the achievement of its pastoral and property objectives.
The CFO will also oversee risk management and ensure the delivery of high‑quality reporting across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
· Lead and develop the Diocesan Finance team to deliver excellent customer service both internally and externally
· Provide strategic financial advice regarding asset health, financial growth, property development and financial risk
· Enhance operational efficiency through automation, AI and emerging technologies
· Maintain accountability for all diocese financial reporting, insurance and compliance with statutory and audit regulations
· Work collaboratively with the finance council and other CDC board committees
This role also reports to:
Experience, Skills & Attributes (see Candidate Brief for more detail):
· BCom in Accounting or Finance and membership of an appropriate associated professional body, CA /CPA, with evidence of ongoing learning
· At least five years’ experience as a CFO or Director of Finance, ideally with experience in complex or large-scale property projects
· Experience in the not-for-profit or public sector is advantageous
