Whakakōingo o te Ngākau: The Yearning Heart

The group bearing this name was formed in the Diocese to enable spiritual direction to be made readily available to promote and encourage individual spiritual growth.

For many years the Mercy Sisters Spiritual Life Centre, Rosary House has offered and continues to offer this valuable service to people.

Whakakōingo o te Ngākau; The Yearning Heart group is made up of formally trained Catholic spiritual directors who are lay, religious or clergy and available here in the Christchurch Diocese. Many of those who are listed below are also formally trained to offer parish or diocesan retreats when called upon. Group members are aware that in these times there is a growing desire in people to meet with someone trained in this ministry of listening and accompaniment. Many are searching for a deeper meaning in their daily lives and desire to share their prayer experiences with someone trained to listen. The Yearning Heart group members offer this service to anyone who wishes to access this ministry of the Church in the diocese.

Below is a list of names and contact details of our spiritual directors, should you wish to make contact and arrange a time to meet. Also should you wish to arrange a parish retreat in the midst of daily life please make contact with a member listed below.

Further to this if you have questions relating to this ministry of spiritual direction please email anyone listed. When enquiring or making an appointment with a spiritual director please be aware there is usually a cost involved.
